World Class Education

The education system in the UK is one of the best in the world and has attracted approximately 500,000 international students from around the globe.

The British education system is generally divided into primary education, secondary education, further education, and higher education.

Children living in England or Wales who are 5-16 years of age are required to get a full-time education.

Parents have the option to send their children to public state schools or private schools.

Children attend primary school from 5 years of age until they are eleven years old.

From 11 years of age until they are 16 years old, children living in the UK attend secondary school.

When a child is 14-15 years of age, he or she will study about 8-10 key subjects in preparation for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams, which are taken at 16 years of age.

Between the ages of 16 to 18, young people living in the UK will usually take Advanced Level (A-Level) courses to prepare for university, attend a further education (FE) college, study “in the sixth form” at their secondary school or a different school, or begin a training program or apprenticeship.

Students living in the UK who attend university will usually complete the Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in three years.

In regards to higher education, the UK is home to several of the world’s top 100 best universities, such as the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, University of Edinburgh, University of Manchester, King’s College, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Bristol, University of Warwick, University of Glasgow, Durham University, University of Birmingham, University of Southampton, University of Leeds, University of Sheffield, University of St. Andrews, and the University of Nottingham (QS World University Rankings 2022; Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021; US News & World Report 2021 Best Global Universities Rankings; Academic Rankings of World Universities 2021).

If you or your family members receive a British education, you can expect that it will be a high-quality education and the diploma or degree will be respected worldwide. Receiving an education in the United Kingdom can also make a big difference in a person’s career opportunities and earning power.
